Classical Pilates

HISTORY

Definition: Pilates [pi-lah-teez] named after the creator Joseph Pilates.

The Pilates Method is a system of physical conditioning, involving low-impact exercises and stretches designed to strengthen muscles of the torso. These exercises work in progression, from the Pilate Mat to specialized equipment.

Joseph Pilates was a sickly child who was determined to make himself strong and healthy. He took up body-building, to the point whereby in his teens he was getting work as a model for anatomical drawings.

Pilates was perhaps the first influential figure to combine Western and Eastern ideas about health and physical fitness. He researched and practiced every kind of exercise he could. This ranged from classical Roman and Greek exercise regimes to body-building and gymnastics. He set this alongside practicing the Eastern disciplines of yoga, tai chi, martial arts and Zen meditation.

Pilates moves are designed to encourage body awareness, promote flexibility, and increase strength without bulking up. Pilates likewise focuses on improving core muscle strength and spinal alignment.

See the website easyvigour.net.nz for Pilates exercises.

Fundamentals Class is an introduction to locating your starting place, the set-up of Mat 1 exercises. This class will help those seeking and wanting to understand what goes into developing those deep misunderstood core muscles.
This class will introduce and help refine the beginning fundamental exercises necessary for all Pilates. Click on the link above in HISTORY to view exercises and learn more.

Mat 1

These are the basic exercises to Pilates that set the core muscles into action. As you continue through this series you will become more familiar with the concept and begin to establish that better and stronger core. Mat 2 series will become available as more clients learn and develop mat 1. In Mat 2 there will be less emphasis on set up, exercises will become faster and harder.

Types of scheduled sessions:

Private sessions are one on one and geared toward developing core strength. This is a continuous hands-on guide of the Pilates method of mental/physical exercises. Several privates (4 sessions recommended) are encouraged to speed up your personal knowledge and physical development.

Semi Private

Semi-Private sessions are geared toward continuous training, development, and maintenance of core strength. The cost is shared among 4 people. Clients are encouraged in small group settings to continue personal interaction.
